Freedom from denial

I once said to someone I had known for many years, “You changed” Their response was, no, I haven’t; I have always been this way.

I denied their words. I dismissed it although there was this unsettling thought that lingered, wow they really have. I could look back over many memories of repeated behavior, but still, this couldn’t be true, I thought. Sometimes, we choose to see what we want to see in an individual. When we want to be in any type of relationship (friend, business, relational), we will maximize what we want the person to be and minimize what they are showing us. It’s a thing. We don’t realize the depth of what we are choosing to see because the relationship is temporarily filling a space of emptiness that we have within ourselves.

The Lord began to deal with me on this very thing years ago. I would deny it as I thought about the behavior that was being displayed versus what I imagined things could be. It was a mental tug of war. I remember praying, “Lord, please open my eyes to any deception or lies that I have chosen to believe over what is true.” I prayed this, BUT I was not expecting the reveal to change my life drastically.

You have to believe what someone is showing you and stop sweeping God’s warning under the rug. The longer you prolong the acceptance of what is, the longer you will stay wrapped in the web of deception. We all know Satans plan, according to John 10:10. Satan’s job is to destroy your life. God has come to set you free from these things, especially the emotional turmoil that you are carrying as a result of what you are choosing to hold on to. When this person said they always been that way-it was true. The sad reality is, I did not want to accept that as I knew I would have to look within and make changes that I was not ready to make.

This week, I encourage you to ask the Lord to remove the blinders that you have put over your eyes and heart that has prevented you from seeing what is true. Pray and ask that He help you overcome this difficult truth and accept what is true. Even if it hurts. God never reveals a thing without the intent to Heal. You must first be willing to remove the blinders so that you can see things the way GOD does. Also, pray continuously that the Lord will guard your heart against any bitterness that may try and grow as a result of what He reveals.

Finally, I want to leave you with this. God can and will fill every void that you have in your life. You have to be transparent in your prayer time and ask him to help with your internal struggles. We all have some form of denial that we have needed to work through. God is with you today!

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
